Hello and Welcome

After many requests I've developed this website to give you an easy way to view Jan's Pottery.  The site contains photographs and descriptions of my most popular collections, peeks at my latest additions and a schedule of the art fairs and events where I'll be presenting.

I've been creating ceramics for 25 years now and it is a passion I couldn't imagine being without.  After a long time working in the offices of a major automotive company and displaying at art fairs on the weekends I felt I really needed to make a choice.  The decision to devote myself to creative endeavors full-time has been more gratifying than I had ever hoped.

Working with your hands connects you to the world and others in a positive, contributive manner.  I am also a massage therapist and I find these different but connected activities impart a sense of grounding that encourages creative growth.  Molding a piece of earth into your own vision while understanding that the clay will also shape your idea is a rather spiritual learning experience and I find as I embrace this my work benefits more and more.

My ceramics are functional pieces whose form and beauty arise from the natural world.  I incorporate a variety of elements in my designs from the delicate tracery of a fern to the poised energy of a dragonfly.  Each piece is individually crafted down to the hand welding of copper stands for my birdbaths and feeders.  Enjoy your visit through the site.  I look forward to seeing you at my next event.
